Hi, it's Stanka.
.I can't wait
.to meet you!
I am Stanka, founder of Your Kickass Money® .
I am a financial coach, a wife to my husband and best friend of 14 years ❤, a mom to two amazing girls 👧👧, ages 4 and 6. I am also a daydreamer, a property market stocker, and I love loosing myself in nature on long walks . I have one hell of a work ethic and can be very determined-borderline stubborn at times (ask my husband) ✌. I’ve been going through a difficult and rewarding personal transformation for a long time and I am not done. I am a personal development junky and love talking about everything psychology 🤷♀️.
I am a certified financial planning coach, accountant, and economist 👩🎓. My business education is combined with my engineering background and analytical mindset. I’ve worked in the IT and pharmaceutical industry for 12 years 😎 . As part of my work at Fortune 50 and Fortune 100 companies, I have managed million dollar budgets and developed structures and strategies that can also be applied to your personal finances.
I help you get rid of money stress
I love helping people discover their true potential and seeing them shine!
I ultimately left the corporate world to follow my calling as a money coach and make even a bigger difference in someone’s life.
How it all started
I grew up 🕘 in the post-soviet reality of Bulgaria. My childhood was marked by the chaos 💥 of an unstructured world, high inflation, and scarcity. I witnessed my parents struggle to adopt to the new reality. Although they always had full time secure jobs working for the government, they had to carefully plan for every single expense 🛒. We couldn’t afford spending money carelessly.
I remember vividly the shame and embarrassment 😔 when I had to wrap my feet around with plastic bags tugged into my cheap winter boots to protect my feet from getting wet in the slushy snow. It sounds crazy in today’s consumerism, but it was my reality. I felt poor and ashamed of it. 😞
Driven by pure determination and hard work ethic, I promised myself to travel the world. I got the education and the well-paying jobs. I finally did it 💪. But then…
Say hello to my friend
The Lifestyle Creep
the hard way
As I earned more money, I got used to higher levels of luxury and conveniences as my new normal. For me this meant purchasing big-ticket items with no planning, going on long expensive holidays, dining out more than I dare to admit, and not even checking my bank account. I was lucky that my income could absorb it all, but for how long? I was anxious that I would never be able to afford to buy a place of my own. The stress was taking over my life and I hated it! 😫 I felt poor again! 😢
You would think that watching my parents struggle financially would teach me how to budget well, right? Think again… The irony is that I have the brains and education to do it, so why couldn’t I? 😭
This was the root cause
I denied the emotional aspect of money and finances. I mean, hell, I can knock up a spreadsheet in minutes, but that doesn’t deal with the emotions I am experiencing. The lessons I learned about money as I child were engrained in me so much that every single financial decision I made as an adult was ruled by my scarcity money mindset. It was telling me that I should enjoy it now while it lasts. 🥴 The more I earned through hard work, the more I felt I deserved to spend 😵.
I didn’t realise that I was robbing myself from my future of financial freedom.
This is how I realised that getting to the emotional root of my money problems was the key 🔑 to making major positive changes in my life.
I was fed up with feeling broke and ashamed despite my hard work and high income. I finally mustered up the courage to face our situation, look at all the numbers, and come up with a plan 👓. My husband and I had long and uncomfortable discussions on how we see money, how we experienced it growing up, how our parents talked (or didn’t talk) about it around us, how we imagine our future together, what our financial goals are. Through these money dates 💰 with my partner, I uncovered so much of what was behind my spending habits and we got even closer together.
The beginning of my money journey to freedom
I developed a system and we stuck with it. Since then, we had achieved so much that makes me proud of us! We had two beautiful girls and were able to send them to a private school to give them the good education that is important to us. We became homeowners 🏠 purchasing an amazing property in the most sought after neighbourhood in our city. We paid cash for our car 🚗 . We invested in a vacation rental in the Danish Riviera. We have healthy savings, retirement, and investment portfolios 📈. I actually now look forward to tweaking our budget – crazy right 😁
Years ago in the mist of my money breakdown, I could have never imagined getting to where we are now. ✨
I have done so much to learn and improve myself and that if I can safe anybody the heartache and the headache that I put myself through, that’s the mission that I am on - to make an impact in a real person’s life!
Money is freedom.
Live life on your own terms.
Life has so much more freedom and enjoyment to offer, when I know we are in control of our money. I want this for you too!
Some fun facts about me
When I'm not money coaching, you'll find me:
With my family; I have two little girls 👩🏼🤝👩🏼 (4 and 6) together with my incredible husband ❤ who is my best friend and my rock!
What I'm most proud of in my coaching business:
Being a small part of other peoples journey to discovering the power to control money 💪 and their own potential for growth 🚀. I also founded Your Kickass Money® with the passion to help close the gender gap and empower women to follow their dreams 🤩.
Something unexpected about me:
I’ve lived in 5 countries 🌎. I had a plan to live in a different country every year; accidentally I found my home away from home 🏠 and stayed. I currently live on the most beautiful little island in Copenhagen, Denmark.
What surprises my clients:
I am a software engineer too. I have combined business and IT education 👩🎓 and have led engineering teams and for over 12 years worked on building some incredibly complex and cool IT and automation solutions. I am not shy working with nerds and with biz folks alike. 😃
All the chocolate! 🍫 I gave up coffee, but chocolate is something I cannot live without.
My favourite travel experience to date:
Solo backpacking in Spain. ✈ Loved it!
The biggest risk I've taken?
Moving to Denmark with a suitcase full of summer cloths 😅, no place to stay, no job, and no one I knew. I flu in directly from the United States with one week notice. Mind you, the weather in Denmark didn’t care about my outfit choices, it was cold and raining 😆 Things turned out better than I could imagine and I still live here. But now I own all the right gear to brave the weather 😉
My favourite season is:
Spring🌸– it brings so much hope for a new beginning, new energy, and the feeling of possibilities.
One thing I've learned that I wish I could tell my younger self:
Be yourself and rock it! 😎 No one can be you and we are all unique and perfect the way we are. ❣
If I could only eat one type of food for the rest of my life, it would be:
Homemade hummus with crackers. I have an (un?)healthy addiction, I admit it 😏 I am Stanka, and I am a hummus-holic.
